Conductive ink dispensing

Conductive inks have made it possible to revolutionize the design of electronic circuits. Conductive inks consist of a suspension of highly conductive material (typically silver) in an evaporable solvent.

The main feature is that it can be dispensed on any surface, even flexible, and also allows production on a very small batches.

Dispensing these conductive inks is complex for a number of reasons:

  • Variations in viscosity from one batch to another
  • Separation between solvent and conductive particles
  • Evaporation of the solvent
  • Abrasiveness of conductive particles
  • Low viscosity

To overcome all these problems, and to obtain a reliable and repeatable dispensing, the progressive cavity pumps PCP DAV Tech are used. Their operation is based on the controlled rotation of a rotor inside a stator, which “pushes” the fluid up to the nozzle in a controlled manner.

The inversion of the rotation, on the other hand, allows a suck back effect, very useful to be accurate once the dispensing ends.

The dispensing of conductive inks is used in the automotive sector, in flexible resistors, in the medical sector, in the sports field, in RFID tags and in the production of displays and Oleds.
